Deeka’s Golden Boy
“Deeka”
March 14, 1985 - December 5, 2012
My Best Friend
Deeka will always be close to my heart and never forgotten.
He was with me from June 1987, just a barely broke 2 year old
when I purchased and rescued him.
He was a registered Buckskin/Dun Quarter Horse with many talents
and came from a long bloodline of famous racing Quarter Horses.
Deeka had tons of speed, versatility, and cattle sense.
He started his career in roping (Heading),
team penning, and Western Pleasure.
Deeka had a career change in 1991.
He loved to jump, so he started showing in Hunter/Jumpers and never looked back.
Deeka also became a faithful and dependable lesson horse at that time.
He taught 100s of adults and children to ride, jump and show from 1991-2010,
when he retired from all lessons and showing.
Deeka touched so many lives and gave so much to all of his riders.
He would gingerly and safely take his 4 year old charges thru a lesson.
Then he would add the speed and attitude to an advanced student wanting to jump a difficult course. Refuse was not in his vocabulary even if someone tried to pull him off a fence.
Deeka never refused to come to anyone in the field for any reason including work.
He had a superior work attitude and it showed in everything he did.
Anytime the trailer pulled up he would let out a loud whinny and beg to go.
He loved showing, trailrides, and trailer rides. He self loaded onto the trailer.
Deeka also took care of me after a very serious car accident in 1998.
He was my first ride back after a 4 month rehab. He treated me like crystal on his back,
carrying me so incredibly slowly and carefully.
Deeka was truly an amazing horse.
He was definitely “one of a kind” never to be duplicated or replaced!
I feel honored to have had this special and rare horse play such a major part in my life.
He is so dearly missed!
